Speech Pathology Clinic

Created for my 501 studio, this building is designed to house a community-serving speech pathology clinic. The design also seeks to serve as a gathering place for the neighborhood, to create bonds of trust between the staff and community members.

Greenhouse Entry

The main entry to the building brings you into a double height green house space, incorporating a third of the building’s foot print. Entering a building through a greenhouse immediately sets the tone for a calm and positive experience. Instead of stepping into a stark and cold lobby, we are greeted by a lush, green oasis. The expanse of plants, with their vibrant colors and soothing aromas, creates an atmosphere that promotes relaxation and wellbeing. Such an environment can help reduce stress levels, providing a peaceful transition from the outside world to the inside space.

The benefits of plants indoors are myriad, including improved air quality, improved mood of inhabitants, increased productivity and creativity of employees, and aesthetic appeal of the building. The heat of the greenhouse can also be harnessed to heat and even cool the rest of the building.

Bright, Open, Green

The clinic lobby is filled with light, air, and plants. Planter boxes under the stairs protect the low head height areas while providing a beautiful design feature.

Community Connection

The first floor of the facility is dedicated to clinical and administrative functions. The second floor has an employee break room, restroom with a shower for cyclists, two group therapy rooms, a multi-purpose community room, and an open-air rooftop garden.
